This poem I think really reflects the heart that a lot of us (definitely me) fall into, as society and the world around us continues to stress the value of appearances, real or not. Praising the good shows, criticising the less-so.
And it's not God's heart.
It's one of those 'in the world but not of the world' difficulties. Social media and simply media media are always in our faces, while God is reminding us that fumbling to create the perfect image will not satisfy, it will not ever be enough in this world. There will always be something that society will have to say, good and bad. And when I say 'the perfect image', it isn't just referring to physical image, it's keeping up a pretense with different people, it's what you say, creating a facade of a person.
God doesn't need the number of minutes of Bible study you did, He wants you to soak in the Words He has for you. He doesn't worry about how many views the verse you posted has, He cares that you took the time to read His Book. Modesty is important, but it doesn't earn you brownie points. There are so many aspects of the concept of keeping up appearances but the bottom line is:
God isn't fooled.
He knows your heart, and better yet, He wants it. He wants you to surrender to what He wants you to do, and the 'good Christian' face won't be just a show, it will be a true reflection of your heart.
Romans 12.2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
