Want Not

youngheartsblog3

You might think you know what you want in life, but I was trying to work out for myself what this is, and I came to the conclusion that I don't. I don't want to want.

You might want a better phone, but give it a couple years and you'll want the next best thing. A nice car will only get you so far (some more than others). The happily ever after high from love doesn't last forever.

I was trying to work out with all of this what would be the thing I am aiming for - peace, freedom, love, success, etc. And I realised that I don't want any of these, I just want to stop wanting.

I guess we forget that God is calling us to a place where we don't need to want. A place where we aren't striving for anything, and we aren't searching for completion within ourselves or within the world, because it just doesn't work like that.

God wants us to understand that with Him, He has all that we could ever want and need, and if we first seek Him and His thoughts and press into what He has to say, He has a plan that isn't continuous striving. He will still place desires and dreams in our hearts, but that isn't what we are chasing.

As the famous Psalm goes, "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1)
